Description
Gythion is a ferry port but in the ancient world was the war port of Sparta. The place also plays a role in the mythology, on the offshore island Ns. Kranai, Helena and Paris have spent their first night out of Sparta.
Ashore: in town, on the road to Sparta and a little north of the port, there is a large and cheap supermarket and the staff happily organise a taxi to the boat. Opposite, is a bakery. Several tavernas are arranged along the water's edge around the harbour and on the road to the south. Water and electricity are available directly at the pier, fuel is delivered by tanker, the telephone number is given by the port police.
During the Meltemi expect strong winds and a considerable swell.
