Mayan-like Piramides de Güímar, an amazing natural, archeological, historical and ethnographic heritage, a legacy of the ancient civilization of the Guanches.
The pyramids are astronomically designed to coincide with the winter and summer solstices. On the summer solstice the pyramid wall is aligned with the point behind the mountain where the sun sets and it is possible to see a double sunset (the sun entirely disappears before reappearing and setting again, providing the illusion of two consecutive sunsets).
The museum in the old ‘Casa Chacona’ has been lovingly restored in a traditional Canarian architectural style.
Güímar itself is an off the beaten track Canarian town with original 16th century architecture can be seen on a number of Casas Rurales. Restaurants with life music, museums, churches, and exciting fiestas in the summer.
