Country: Tunisia

Description

A lively, tourist dominated town, with Medina and markets catering more for visitors than locals.

Warning: you must check-in even if you have already been cleared into the Tunisia.

Approach slowly as there are many tuna nets which are hard to see especially in the dark.

Moor: call on VHF ch 11, 13, or 16 before entering the marina. If they don't respond you can call or email!

If you are entering Tunisia you will be directed to go first side-to near the Customs office. They will meet your boat with many forms to fill-in. The officials are polite and friendly.

You will be shown where to go; med moorings with 2 mooring lines. Protection is good but it can be windy.

Monastir Marina is a popular winter live-aboard and good and safe place to leave your yacht while touring inland. You are advised to book in advance. Monitoring of your boat in your absence is included in the price.

400 berths. The marina does not accept credit cards, only cash.

Tel: (+216) 73 46 23 05 ; Fax: (+ 216) 73 46 20 66; VHF ch 11, 13, or 16

Ashore: water, electricity (220-380 and 500 V), toilets, laundry, fuel station, supermarket, bank, ATM

Don't miss:

  • the Medina 5 minutes walk from the marina,
  • the Ribat of Harthena, the castle that dominates the waterfront.
  • the market, with cheap fresh fruit and vegetables in abundance. The fish, poultry and spices are great as is the bread. Visit the fish market too,
  • there is a lively 2nd hand clothes market on Fridays.
