Warning: follow the channel markers for 4.2 miles up the river as there are fishing nets on both sides the channel. The minimum depth in the channel is 2.1m + tide. Anchor to wait for a high tide in 5m a few miles before the safe water buoy.
Moor: on the new commercial dock in the centre of town. It is not ideal for yachts as it is quite high; allow for tidal range and for the change in current. Landing is either by dinghy to one of the ladders in between the fenders or by climbing over one of the fenders. Excellent 24-hour security at the port gate.
Anchor: close to one of the banks with fore and aft anchors to prevent swinging into the channel; keep the boat well lit at night as there is a lot of commercial traffic that is not expecting to encounter an anchored yacht.
Ashore: water is available by jerry can from the Port Office. A pleasant place with a good market (Mon-Sat morning), several supermarkets, banks/ATMs, restaurants, bars, etc.
Don't miss: you may want to explore upriver and anchor in Jamaerkanaal and visit Bigi Pan by dinghy (which must be carried for a short distance from the river up a ramp and over the sluice gates).
